SHRUBWALKERS

Bataan Death March
  • Time: Saturday, November 6th, 0530.
  • Place: Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.
  • Weight: 20-30 Pounds
  • Temp: Approx 40 degrees.
  • Route: Two times around the Fort Meade Golf Course. 6.6 Miles
  • It was still dark when we started out. Sgt. Becht brought us all chem lights, but none of them worked (Probably too old). Luckily, someone brought a flashlight. About 2 miles into the hike, I realized that I had overdressed. I took off my BDU cap and jacket and stuck them in my rucksack. I was wearing a longsleeve undershirt available at most Clothing and Sales stores. SSG. Martinez (the leader of our little group) had us drink water every twenty minutes. At the end of the first loop around the golf course, 3.3 miles, we turned around and went the opposite way. All in all it was a pretty uneventful training session. At the end of it, I had a few hot spots on my feet. The most damage was done on the part of my feet right below my big toes. Will have to buy moleskin for that. Other than that, everything went well.
