Bataan Death March
A much better march this time around. We started at about 0800 on Sunday morning. The terrain was much different than what we were used to. We encountered many hills, roots, rocky trails, streams, mud, and sand. Even though we marched nearly 3 hours, it felt as if we went much further than just 10 miles. (10 miles is a guess on my part). For preparation I put on two pairs of white sports socks rather than the one pair of black wool socks I usually wear. I felt a little more comfortable with the extra padding. Even though I added moleskin to the areas I thought would be affected, I developed more blisters. I am finding that the blisters are appearing around the edges of the moleskin. I am thinking that the next time out I will try it with no moleskin at all (except around my little toes). About three quarters of the way through the march I started feeling a bit weak. I only had a banana and 5 chocolate chip cookies for breakfast. Obviously, that was not enough to sustain me for three hours. I am very happy to say that I had no problem with chaffing. I exchanged the spandex for loose fitting boxer shorts and applied Vaseline to the affected areas. Over all, today's march was very successful, and I am looking forward to the next one. We will meet again on Sunday, December 12. The place and time should remain the same.
